If you tailor client treatments to where your client is in their menstrual cycle, you can help treat problematic skin conditions. Each phase of the cycle impacts the skin differently due to hormonal fluctuations. Read on to find out how you can help!
Tailor Client Treatments
The recurring menstrual cycle lasts for an average of 28 days. It involves the brain, the uterus and the ovaries. Clients who “cycle sync” their skincare will have differing skin and treatment needs throughout the month. The cycle can mean skin is more predictable and therefore easier to treat. By anticipating each stage, your client will be on their way to perfect skin all month long. Let’s take a look at the cycle and how to best treat each stage.
Menstruation
Day 1-6 of the follicular phase. This is when hormone levels are at their lowest point. Skin can appear dry, dull and tired due to a reduction in collagen production and an increase in oil production. This causes sensitivity & irritation – with potential breakouts. So how can you tailor client treatments, and which SkinBase solution is best?
Recommended SkinBase Treatment: Collagen Lift
The non-surgical Collagen Lift treatment is relaxing and pain-free. The heat works deep within the skin to lift and tone, stimulating collagen production and boosting circulation. Boosting collagen production triggers a wound-healing response. The problem area floods with new collagen to leave a smoother, sculpted appearance. It is important to note the radio-frequency energy should not be used to treat the tummy during the menstruation phase.
Proliferative (Follicular) Phase
Day 7-12 of the follicular phase. After menstruation, hormone levels increase. Collagen production is more efficient and there is an increase in moisture retention and hydration. Skin will be at its healthiest – so this is the ideal time for skin maintenance. Tailor client treatments by offering SkinBase Hydro at this stage.
Recommended SkinBase treatment: Hydro
Hydro is an effective treatment to help balance and maintain good skin. The peel’s natural AHAs and BHAs enhance cell renewal and give improved skin for longer. Paired with the customised serums, you can choose the best one to benefit each client’s skin. Removal of the top layer of dead skin cells means the skin is ready to absorb the active ingredients to leave skin fresh and revitalised. Whether their skin needs renewing, clarifying or brightening, you can choose the serum to help maintain their natural glow.
Ovulation
Day 13-15 of the cycle is when hormone levels peak and become imbalanced. This is the mid-cycle point when the egg releases into the fallopian tube. An increase in testosterone can cause breakouts.
Luteal Phase
Day 16-28. Oestrogen levels go down and progesterone levels goes up. This causes higher sebum production and acne-prone skin. Those who didn’t experience breakouts during ovulation may definitely experience it now. These are often called “period breakouts”.
Recommended SkinBase treatment: Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion gets rid of dead skin cells that sit on top of the skin. The vacuum removes any dirt and debris, unclogging pores and allowing products to absorb. It also encourages cell renewal for improved elasticity and a smoother texture. If excess oil is a problem in your client’s luteal phase, MD is the treatment to recommend. The fine crystals spray over the skin to work away any clogged material leaving the fresh new skin underneath.
Tailor Client Treatments with SkinBase
Tailor client treatments to their menstrual cycle for best results. It is unlikely that clients will have a range of SkinBase treatments in one month, but a particular phase of their cycle may be especially detrimental to their skin. If so, suggest a mini-course of the recommended treatment to help.
