Skincare myths can lead clients to make poor decisions about their skin. As skincare professionals, it’s important to educate clients so they can maximise results. This will also build trust and help you to form long-term client relationships. Let’s separate fact from fiction and debunk some common skincare myths.

Myth: “You only need SPF in summer/on sunny days”

This can be one of the most damaging skincare myths, so make sure your clients never underestimate the importance of daily SPF. Whatever the weather, using sun protection also protects the skin barrier from the elements. SPF is your skin’s best defence against: sunburn, premature ageing and skin cancer. UV rays penetrate through cloud and even glass, so these harmful rays can cause damage on overcast days. Tell your clients to use sunscreen as part of their daily routine.

Myth: “Oily skin doesn’t need moisturiser”

Whatever their skin type, moisturiser is a skincare essential. Cleansing causes natural oils to wash away leaving skin vulnerable and unprotected. Oily skin needs hydration just as much as dry skin so it is important to highlight this as one of the popular skincare myths out there. Your clients should choose lightweight moisturisers that don’t clog skin to maintain skin balance. If they are prone to acne, avoid non-comedogenic products to keep skin clear and healthy. Loss of moisture results in an increase in oil production – so make sure they don’t skip the moisturiser!

Myth: “Anti-ageing products/treatments are only for mature skin”

Prevention is better than cure. The sooner your client introduces effective products and treatments to their skincare the better. There are many treatments and products that can benefit all skin types. Young skin also benefits from investing in time and commitment. Consistency is key if your clients want to reap the benefits, and debunk skincare myths.

Myth: “You can shrink your pores”

It is possible to minimise the appearance of pores, but it isn’t possible to change their size. Genetics determine pore size, and age can influence the condition they’re in. It is important that your clients keep pores clear with a consistent skincare routine. Our SkinBase treatments can improve pore health and how they look. Exfoliation is key!

Debunking Skincare Myths

Skincare can be confusing – understanding what’s true and what’s false can help your clients take better care of their skin. Prioritise informing your clients about these skincare myths so they can maximise homecare.

Sammy’s Cosmetic Aesthetics

Client Testimonial: “I have just finished the Collagen Lift course, and wow the results are amazing. My skin feels and looks tighter, my enlarged pores are now no longer, and my lines are minimal compared to what they were. The Collagen Lift procedure is none evasive and can be catered to you personally through the heat levels, great if you’re feeling delicate. Sam was amazing, not only was she friendly, attentive and very informative, She made me feel calm and relaxed throughout. Before the treatment I was aware of the signs of ageing on my face and was very conscious of it and people looking at me, now I ooze with confidence and self esteem. I like me again. I will certainly be booking again without hesitation to keep on top of the amazing results I have obtained from this procedure. I can’t thank Sam and her Collagen Lift enough. Brilliant 5 star treatment and results.”
